I'm not surprised! I struggled as a student and I had a part time job as well as a placememnt year that paid a decent wage - yet I still managed to rack up over £16k of debt from the student loan, not including any fees.

Student accounts also come with 0% overdrafts which is great at the time, but still another debt that has to be paid off.

Good luck to the new generation of students that will be racking up around £27,000 in fees alone!!

I'm still shocked at the huge fees that students will have to pay out! These loans may help them to get into University, but in most cases they will be paying them off for many years to come. I found it hard enough to pay off the overdraft on my student account let alone the loan I borrowed to fund my living for 3 years.

Makes you wonder how many students will be going to study on courses that don't offer student many prospects after uni - not mentioning any in particular..art, ahem...

I love being able to transfer my money around and check my statements online. On several occasions I've been in a dreaded situation that many others will no very well - arriving at the checkout with a trolley full of shopping and my card is declined. However, rather than blushing for a few minutes while trying the card again - I simply log into my account from my smartphone, then transfer the cash from my savings account to my current account. I try again and bob's your uncle, the payment goes through! What a brilliant invention!
